Basking Ridge, New Jersey. Chief Credit Officer

Served as member of executive leadership team of largest federal credit union headquartered in New Jersey. Oversaw all lending portfolios and underwriting guidelines, including residential mortgages, consumer lending, and commercial lending for $3,000,000,000 institution. Acted as Chairman of the Board of Cumanet, mortgage CUSO, with Affinity FCU as majority owner. Oversaw loan administration, servicing, and member care functions, as well as responsibility for any loan modifications, restructurings, and workouts across all lending portfolios.

Worked closely with outside legal counsel as required. Served as member of ALCO committee, trustee of 401(k) committee, board member of Affinity FCU Foundation, and required attendee of monthly board of directors meetings for all credit issues related to Affinity FCU. Assisted with strategy and business development efforts across organization. Worked closely with chief financial officer on all regulatory matters, exams, and audits, as well as developing and reviewing ALLL methodology to ensure adequate reserves. Managed all lending policies and procedures.

MORGAN STANLEY,

New York, New York Managing Director and Senior Credit Officer

Approved and managed U.S. credit risk on tailored lending (private banking), SME commercial lending, residential mortgage and home equity lending, non­ purpose margin lending (portfolio loan account) and Community Reinvestment Act (CRA) lending portfolios.  Previously oversaw all margin lending, equity option contracts, futures trading limits, and fixed income/securities lending transactions for global wealth management group (GWMG) leading up to Morgan Stanley Smith Barney joint venture integration.  Served Chairman of firm’s U.S GWM credit committee from 2003 to 2009, as well as serving on board of directors for Morgan Stanley Trust.

Oversaw all CRA wholesale lending for Morgan Stanley Bank, NA and Morgan Stanley Private Bank, NA, focused on affordable housing and economic development (SBA 504 loans).  Served as voting member on three separate Community Development Financial Intermediaries (CDFI) external credit committees.  Managed all loan workouts and personally handled larger and more complex transactions over wide range of industries and collateral types, with strong recovery results.  Developed, implemented, and enforced all policies and procedures of firm’s credit committee.

Coordinated all retail and wholesale product capital treatment, ensuring GWMG compliance with Basel II Final Rule.  Served on firm’s asset/liability, identity theft, new product approval, and insurance due diligence committees.  Interfaced with regulatory agencies, including Federal Reserve Bank, FINRA, NYSE, SEC, CBOT, FDIC, OCC, NFA, and various state banking regulators.  Led development of credit policies, procedures, credit underwriting standards, and risk acceptance criteria for all GWMG credit products.  Oversaw strategy development, vendor selection, system implementation, marketing, sales, training, and national rollout for all of GWMG’s credit products.

  • Won chairman’s challenge award for development, launch, and dramatic growth of residential mortgage lending program.
  • Developed three additional lending platforms for commercial lending, securities-based lending, and private banking, all becoming multi-billion loan portfolios from startup phase.

Managed staff of 20 private banking lenders in four locations, plus retail branch officers.  Opened first regional private banking office in Bergen Country, New Jersey in 1987.  Achieved profitable growth in lending, deposits, and trust business, along with cross selling initiatives with corporate lending division.  Prepared affiliate bank (Chatham Trust Company)  private banking portfolio for merger into Summit Bank’s private banking division.  Served as guest lecturer at NJ CPA Society.

Built bank’s early entry into private banking business in New Jersey.  Achieved record growth in loan and deposit volume.  Established first regional private banking office in Somerset County, New Jersey.

Completed intensive 12-month management training position focusing on six-month classroom environment with particular focus on finance, accounting, money, and banking, followed by second six-month period of on-the-job rotations spending time in corporate trust, personal trust, private banking, and asset-based/commercial real estate lending.  Following training program, began initial position in private banking division focusing on high-income, high-net-worth executives, professionals, and entrepreneurs located in New York metropolitan area.
